Jane Katherine Little Shupe

Jane Shupe, 83, of Newport News passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022, in her home, surrounded by her family who knew her as a loving mother, grandmother (“Nanook”), sister, friend, and neighbor.

She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Bolen Shupe, of Newport News, her son-in-law Karim Lakhdari of Las Vegas, Nevada, her parents Robert David and Nelle Carr Little, and her brother George Robert Little of Johnson City Tennessee. Also preceding her in death are two sisters-in-law Dorothy Shupe Ponder and Hazel Shupe, one niece Linda Shupe Horne, and one nephew Allen Shupe.

She is survived in life by four children Michele Shupe Lakhdari, Marie Shupe Ferguson (Colin), David Shupe, and Bonnie Shupe Marlowe (Andrew); ten grandchildren, Campbell Ferguson, Callie Ferguson, Casey Ferguson, Jack Marlowe, Daisy Marlowe, Colton Marlowe, Sawyer Marlowe, Harper Lakhdari, Nicholas Lakhdari, and Justin Thomas. Also surviving in life are two sisters Betsy Little Hodge (Marion) and Juanelle Little Lambert (Robert), one brother-in- law Gerald Shupe; four nieces Shelly Shupe Lamb, Lara Hodge, Leah Hodge, Molly Lambert Martin (Daniel), two nephews Doug Brock, Jacob Lambert, and four great nephews Andrew Hammonds, Dayton Martin, Dowson Martin, Grayson Martin and one great niece Haddie Martin.

Jane was a graduate of Science Hill High School in Johnson City, Tennessee. She received both her Bachelors and Masters degrees from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. She was a reading specialist and the Supervisor of Reading for Hampton City Public Schools for many years. She also was a professor at Christopher Newport University. She was a faithful and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

A memorial service for Jane will be held Friday, September 2 at 9:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 902 Denbigh Boulevard, Newport News, Virginia.

At a private service in what she referred to as “God’s Country,” Jane will be laid to rest beside her husband Saturday morning in the cemetery of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church, Fries, Virginia.
